Shape Volume Calculator
Work out the volume and surface area of a cube, box, sphere, hemisphere, cylinder, cone, pyramid or triangular prism, in metric or imperial units.
Frequently asked questions
Is this tool free?
Yes. Calchemy tools are free to use in your browser.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The tools are designed to run locally in your browser unless clearly stated otherwise.
Which measurements do I need?
It depends on the shape. The diagram for each shape shows exactly which lengths to measure, such as the radius (half the width) of a sphere or the height of a cone.
Does the surface area include the flat ends?
Yes. For a hemisphere, cylinder, cone and pyramid the surface area includes the flat base or ends, as if the shape were a closed solid.
What shape of triangle does the triangular prism use?
The volume works for any triangle. For the surface area, the triangle is assumed to have two equal sloping sides, like a tent or a chocolate bar box, as shown in the diagram.
